Ralph Mindicino

Ralph studied fine art at the State University of New York at Fredonia and Stonybrook, acquiring skills in bronze and steel sculpture, pottery and oil painting.

Working exclusively with acrylic Plexi glass since 2005 (but initially explored and developed in 1982), Mr. Mindicino has continued producing distinctive paintings utilizing a reverse painting approach drawing on hand painting and engraving plus air brush and spray painting techniques. This mixture of vibrant and delicate colors invokes organically inspired abstractions and cityscapes.

Winner of the prestigious Wynn Newhouse Award in 2009, Ralph Mindicino’s paintings have been displayed at the Knoedler Gallery, Delaware Art Museum and numerous national juried exhibitions.  Past highlights include ‘Wounded In Action’ Art Exhibition which toured nationally until 2012 with locations including the Senate Rotunda in Washington DC and the National Museum at Walter Reed. In 2012, the Rome Art Center hosted a solo show of Mr. Mindicino’s work. Additionally, several pieces were selected to become part of the permanent art collections of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown MA and Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital in Malvern PA.  My paintings can also be seen as part of the set design for CBS’s “Person of Interest” & ABC’s “Body of Proof”.

My figurative work developed into what eventually became the URBAN series of paintings. This series explores the theme of isolation, utilizing looming structures enhanced with a lustrous saturation of color with the nexus being a singular foregrounded figure. This lone individual is set upon a streaming corridor of dynamic coloration, inferring ineffectuality and uncertainty.

This URBAN series depicts the inevitable solitary nature of the human condition. The assuredness of an individuals isolation is intrinsic to our innermost being, a decidedly natural circumstance of life. The veracity of the lone individual becomes the primary and inescapable guarantee of human existence.

This condition is a possible catalyst, creating motivation and ferment to explore our understanding of the human spirit. This existential loneliness becomes the impetus to contend with ones own subjective truth and encourages confrontation with the fundamental questions of human existence. Harnessing a perspective accomplished through introspection leads to discoveries which can essentially shape and define our temperament and character.

My concurrent abstract series utilize patterned organic motifs illustrating a potential molecular scheme. These meditations explore the theme of mortality intertwined with biology and confront the uncertainty and impermanence of life.
